Kölner ceramic size kt5 & kt5-hv method:
Both products are water-dilutable and can be applied to ceramics or porcelain and have to be used with transfer gold leaf only.
Ensure that the surfaces to be treated are dry, dust and grease free.
If there is only to be glued then apply ceramic size kt5 with a brush.
If the surface is very porous, it is first treated with a solution diluted 1: 1 with water.
After about 4 hours of drying time the treated surface can be gilded.
Cut the transfer gold to the right size.
Press the gold on the protective paper side with a little cotton wool firmly on the surface.
Remove the protective paper.
Press the gold again and then polish the surface in one direction.
This results in a beautiful mirror shine.
The function of ceramic size kt5-hv is exactly the same as the ceramic size kt5 when it comes to applying the gold leaf.
The application however of the product and the drying time differs.
Ceramic size kt5-hv is a paste, layers can be formed with a thickness of up to 1mm.
The layer is built up by applying the product several times with a spatula or putty knife.
In between, a drying time of at least 2 hours is always observed.
After the last layer has been applied, a drying time of 12 to 24 hours is taken into account, depending on the layer thickness.
When the guilding is started the layer may no longer feel sticky.
